27 May 2008 Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance is drawing up a draft plan to merge eight state-owned banks. According to Fars News Agency, the proposed plan will involve eight state-owned banks and establish a new usury-free Islamic bank known as 'Gharz-al-Hassanah bank'.

Inflation in Qatar to drop to 11.5% this year (Zawya)
28 May 2008 Qatar's economy is expected to pick up this year and inflation will ease to around 11.5 per cent as the country moves to halt a rapid rise in rents that have been blamed for most of the inflation, according to official estimates.
